Nowadays there are tens if not hundreds of vacuum cleaners’ manufacturers all over the World. We tend to know just the biggest players on the market like Dyson, Vax, Numatic, Dirt Devil or Hoover. It’s partly because these are the dedicated vacs manufacturers. Apart form them there are loads of of other producers, also dedicated to hoovers, like SEBO and Bissell or dedicated to home appliances, like Electrolux, Zanussi, Morphy Richards and Miele. Other ones are reputable manufacturers of not only home appliances, like Bosch, Black and Decker, Samsung and Panasonic, just to name a few.
Among all those brands it is extremely difficult to pick the right one. And even is you pick a brand, there’s another issue with deciding whether to go with an upright or a cylinder, bagged or bagless. Shall you buy a wet and dry or a dedicated carpet washer. Sometimes it is useful to spend some extra money on a handheld machine. Addition of a HEPA or antibacterial filter might also be useful. As you can see, it’s not so easy.
It could seem that choosing a dedicated brand is a right move. You shouldn’t forget that big companies like Panasonic, have money and specialised r&d departments, so they know what they do, in terms of designing vacuum cleaners. Then again it might be just a hype, trying to sell a product for twice the money it is worth. All pros and cons should be taken under consideration.
A wise move could be to ask your friends and family, use their expertise and experience. If there are any concerns you should reject the brand. It might be also useful to go to websites offering vacuum cleaners reviews, written either by experts or users or both. On those websites you can also easily check, how popular the item is, which also shows whether it is trustworthy or not. Internet is the place where you can find the best offers. Sometimes it is useful to purchase a vacuum cleaner that quite possibly is not the top of the range, but it was on a half price or even better.
Choosing the right vacuum cleaner is not as easy as it could seem. Pick a few with the best opinions and start eliminating them one by one or, if you cannot decide between a couple of them, wait for the best offer.
Washing machines
A brief history of washing machines
Many years ago whenever someone wanted to wash clothes, it was necessary to rub them against rocks in a river. It was as difficult, time consuming and tiring as it sounds. In the meanwhile people had started using corrugated wash boards. The rule was the same, but it was easier to bring your own board rather than finding rocks. Corrugated wash board seems to be important if we take a look at nowadays washing machines, or actually look inside. The drum is actually using the same technique. It’s also rubbing clothes against walls, in addition turning them around. Simply someone noticed that instead of rubbing clothes up and down against boards, the same thing could be done in a drum. The only thing was necessary water. To keep water in, the drum was placed in a tank, filled with water. Clothes were put into the drum, which was being rotated by the power of humans muscles. It’s hard to tell who noticed that dirt is removed more efficiently when water is warm or hot. Maybe someone tried it out, to remove bacteria, as the same thing was done while boiling food. The water in the tank used to be heated over a bonfire! Sounds dodgy, but it was nearly 300 years ago.
After a while the technique moved forward. Electricity was discovered. Muscles were replaced with electric motors. There was no need of heating water over a fire any more, as electricity could be used to do so. Simple one wash ‘program’ has evaluated into multiple ones. But still all changes were made by electro-mechanical system.
Nowadays washing machines use more and more electronic systems. Therefore setting them to start washing at certain time or when washing is about to finish is not a problem. Look how easy is your life nowadays.
I found a funny ad on Youtube and looked for a Dirt Devil vac. This is what I found. It’s not the one used in the ad, but still seems to be a decent hoover. Looks really smart and according to what was written on that website it’s quite powerful. I wonder whether it’s powerful enough to suck up a wig…
Recently I’ve come across this extremely funny ad. I know it’s fairly old but I didn’t watch it before. This is what you’d expect from a bran named Dirt Devil.
A big thank you to all home appliances
It often happens that people get used to thing so much, that they are not actually aware of how important all the appliances at home are. We keep complaining at vacuuming, how tiring it is etc. and we don’t appreciate that it would have been tens, if not thousands times worse without a vac. Same thing applies to other devices. Have you ever considered washing all your dirty clothes manually? I’m sure that at least some people wash some, especially ultra delicate, clothes with their bare hands, but it doesn’t happen very often.
Preparing a cake or a simple milk shake wouldn’t be as easy as it is now. I know, I know.. You need to clean a mixer or a blender, but still your life is made easy.
Things like refrigerators are so common nowadays, that every day living without them is nearly impossible. The list virtually never ends. I could write a few more words about home appliances, but it wouldn’t be enough.
Now it’s the time to say big ‘thank you’ to appliances we keep at home. That may sound stupid but at some point in the future it might be just too late…
